After nightfall, the locals like to gather along the riverbank. It’s usually a pretty casual, potluck-style event. Last time Yuri brought a bag of carrots, Raymond brought peanuts and lemonade, and Irene brought chicken parts and a bottle of gourmet ketchup.
There’s lots of history along the river, and the tide washes up all kinds of treasures, like old shoe buckles and buttons. When the locals find these artifacts, they pick them up off the ground, look out at the glittering green water, and think for a while about the mysteries of time, and about all the other locals that used to hang around here at one time or another.
